Going to The south

To travel by bicycle takes more than desire. Be in good company, to have a good physical condition, eating spaghetti and drinking caramel water are some secrets.

While the water begins evaporate and the sun projects its first shines, Army and Danila arrive to our appointment in Nariño square in down town Pasto.

Four months ago, the german couple left their country, Army has been working as a mechanic specializes on trucks and Danila as an elementary school teacher; they decided to take a break on their work for a year to travel to South America. They arrived in Caracas by plane and from there, they began a journey that led to Santa Marta and other different cities in Colombia, but what makes this a different journey, is in the way how they have travelled for many kilometers: in bicycle and walking.

With the charm that characterized the interview and the little Spanish that Danila spoke and understood, she was able to say greetings to the people of Pasto and here releative and share their experiences on the road, also they were able to comment about the beauty of the landscapes in Colombia and the motives behind their trip especually doing it is such.

A trip of these characteristics requires more than desires to know a continent, a good physical condition is needed. Army and Danila carry 60 and 40kg on their bikes respectively, the luggage has the following items: a tarp, a tent, kitchenware, personal cleanliness products, clothes and other things, just the essential stuff to live for a year. The rule about food nothing gets behind. They eat pasta and a half of chicken while they could, they keep drinking root beer and caramel water that gives them energy to travel long distances.

Before arriving to Pasto, they enjoyed Candelaria in Bogotá, the Cartagena walls as well, and the cities Medellin and Popayan, according to they said to Voces de Nariño, Pasto “the surprise city”, received them with tranquility. The couple said that they have chosen Pasto as a place to rest because is a small city with low traffic.

During their visit in Colombia, Army and Danila have been marveled and surprise on what they have found, while violence projects a different country in the world, this beautiful couple take along with them beautiful memories of this country, Colombia in fact, is in the second place in biodiversity and as Army says, “it is the place where you could be very comfortable and pleased”
